A headteacher says parents should not worry about the potential closure of a day care nursery.

The Little Stars nursery shares a building with The Grange school in Dorothy Road, Kettering.

The school, which is set to become an academy this summer, is planning to move into the area currently housing the nursery.

A final decision on the future of the nursery will be taken after a public consultation, which starts tomorrow (Friday, May 17).

However, Grange headteacher Nick Aiken said the proposed conversion to an academy had no bearing on whether the nursery will shut.

He said: “I can confirm we will still be committed to early years education.

“We are doing this to improve outcomes for children.”

Some parents of children at the nursery have suggested the school had not given enough notice – something Mr Aiken denied, saying: “They were notified within four months to seek alternative placements, which is perfectly adequate.

“The vast majority were given the option to maintain their place at our school.”

But parent Jodie Foster said she was worried about the incovenience for her child, saying: “It’s not just as simple as finding a place somewhere else.”
