An MP has returned to the primary school he used to attend – to open a library named after his mum.
Andy Sawford cut the ribbon at a new library at Havelock Junior School in Desborough yesterday (Thursday, May 9).
It has been named after his mother Rose, a town councillor in Desborough and former literacy governor at the school.
“It was a quarter of a century since I was last in the school,” said Mr Sawford, MP for Corby and East Northants. “It was great to go back and see the changes but also the things that are familiar.
“It was nice to see how much the children there were enjoying the library.”
Mr Sawford said he was really proud of his mum, adding: “She was overjoyed. It was a surprise – she didn’t know me and my brother were going.
“She has got a huge passion for books and reading. I couldn’t think of a nicer thing for the school to do to show their appreciation.”
