Young rugby players got a huge surprise when a sporting star turned up at a recent competition.
Primary school children competing in an under-eights tag rugby tournament were delighted when former England and Leicester rugby captain Martin Johnson presented their medals.
The tournament saw 20 teams competing against each other in five-minute tag rugby matches, before Cottingham Primary School and Wilbarston Primary School faced each other in the final. In a hard fought match, Wilbarston just pipped Cottingham 7-6.
Headteacher at Cottingham Primary School, Emma Tayler, said: “The tournament was very exciting and the children improved with every match.
“We were really proud of the team, and receiving their medals from Martin Johnson was the icing on the cake.”
