Hippies, punk rockers and back-combed hair took over a county school.
Children in Year 4 at Millbrook Junior School in Kettering dressed up in different fashions from the past five decades.
The costume day was a way of introducing them to a new unit called Fashion Through the Decades, which they will be studying this term.
Patricia Evans, head of lower school at Millbrook, said: “The unit is not just about clothes fashion, it’s also about art fashion and music fashion which has come and gone through the ages.
“We wanted to start off with a bit of a wow factor so all the children chose a genre and dressed up.
“We had hippies, punk rockers, children dressed in 50s Grease Lightning style, 70s glam rockers and back-combed hair and leg warmers.
“It’s a way to get them interested in the topic from the start.
“They were given the Christmas holidays to research a genre and to get a costume ready.”
The unit will last for half a term.
