East Northants Council has elected its new chairman for the year and councillor Pam Whiting said she’s delighted to take up the role.
Cllr Whiting has been elected as the council’s Chairman for 2013-14, and as chairman she will represent the civic head of the council and is invited to represent it at a number of meetings and functions throughout the county.
Cllr Whiting, who represents the Higham Ferrers Lancaster Ward together with Cllr Glenn Harwood MBE, becomes the forty-third chairman of the council and will hold the post for one year. She has been a district councillor for 10 years following her initial election in 2003.
Cllr Whiting said she was ‘honoured’ to be elected as chairman.
She added: “I am greatly honoured to be elected as Chairman and look forward to representing the district at various events throughout the year.
“During my time as Chairman, I hope to visit the different areas of East Northamptonshire, some of which I have not previously visited, and look forward to meeting people who voluntarily do so much for their local communities.
“I will be supporting a range of charities through my events, with Alzheimers’ Research UK as my main recipient.”
She was elected as chairman at the annual meeting of the council for the civic year on Wednesday May 15. Cllr Gill Mercer was also named as vice-chairman at this meeting.
Events already planned for the year include a civic service at St Mary’s Church, Higham Ferrers, and Bede House, as well as a concert featuring the popular band Boobs & Brass.
