East Northamptonshire Council’s leader says he’s proud that his towns offer free parking for shoppers and visitors.

A council spokesman said: “With 13 free car parks to choose from and generous allowances of time to park, it’s easy on you and your pocket to visit shop and enjoy our towns.

“It gets better - five of our car parks have received the prestigious Park Mark award which is given by the Police to car parks that have achieved the standards of the Safer Parking Scheme. The scheme aims to reduce crime and the fear of crime in car parks.

“Duck Street, John Street, Rectory Road (Orchard Place) and Splash car parks in Rushden and Sackville Street in Thrapston have met strict criteria demonstrating a safe, clean quality parking environment.

“As always, safety is important and especially so in a family orientated shopping environment. The award signifies to residents and visitors that there is good quality and safe car parking facilities available in the towns – an important assurance for many families and shoppers.”

East Northamptonshire Council Leader, Cllr Steven North, says: “We’ve always been proud to offer free parking in all of our towns and hope that everyone will take advantage of this and enjoy the great shops, restaurants and events that our towns have to offer.”
