Learner drivers will soon be able to take their tests in Wellingborough again.
The Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) was told earlier this year that it had to vacate the test centre at Halfords in Whitworth Way by July.
Its closure meant the nearest test centres for learner drivers were in Kettering or Northampton.
However, it has been confirmed that tests will be taking place in the town once again from next month.
A spokesman for the DVSA said Glamis Hall in Goldsmith Road, Wellingborough, will be the official test centre, with tests taking place there from Tuesday, September 6.
Tests will be available from the new location every Tuesday and Thursday.
Heather Saunders from Glamis Hall For All, which runs the hall, said: “It’s a fairly busy town so we need a driving test centre and when I saw the article in the Northants Telegraph in April, I thought we have got a car park, what else do you need?
“I contacted the DVSA straight away and they came up to see it.
“It will bring in an income for us and it is a service that the town needs.”
Heather said the contracts have been signed and they are hopeful the new venture will benefit both learner drivers and those who use Glamis Hall.
She said: “It will get other people into the building who wouldn’t normally come.
“And hopefully we are going to have a decent relationship with 40 or so driving instructors that we wouldn’t know.”
It is hoped that people using the driving test centre, which will have a reception area in the main building, will be able to see all the clubs and activities on offer at Glamis Hall and come back in the future.
Heather added: “Hopefully it will work out well here.”
