Children with disabilities and other problems are to be treated to a dream day out at Rockingham speedway in Corby.
The event on Saturday, August 11, has been organised by the Sporting Bears Motor Club, a group of motoring enthusiasts who will be heading to Rockingham in an array of classic and sport cars for the children’s charity day.
The club, which raises money for children’s charities through a number of different motoring activities, has teamed up with the Northamptonshire circuit to offer dream rides to invited guests of the charities which benefit from its fundraising activities.
Event organiser and finance controller at Rockingham, Andrew Lake, said: “Every year we offer dream rides to visitors at prestigious motoring events across the country, which raises tens of thousands of pounds for a number of local children’s charities and hospices.
“This event is different as it gives us with the opportunity to provide a memorable day out for those children and their families we usually raise money to support. The best thing about this event is that the passenger rides are not just for the children but their siblings and parents too.”
This is the first charity day the Sporting Bears Motor Club has held at Rockingham but similar events at Aintree and Teeside circuits have been a huge success.
Mr Lake said: “The children’s charity days have always been very well received and the positive feedback from families has been overwhelming. One mother, who has a severely disabled son, told us that it had been the best family day out.
“She explained it was a rare treat for them all to be able to do something together. Usually one of the boy’s parents was forced to watch from the sidelines caring for either their son or his siblings, while the other joined in the activities.”
As well as passenger rides, there will also be a static display of race cars, a special games area while the in-house simulators offers the chance to follow in the slipstream of some of the UK’s top racing drivers on a virtual international super sports car circuit.
