The Rotary Club’s Nene Valley dragon boat race is set to be a roaring success and there’s still time for groups and companies to sign up for the event.

It’s being held on Sunday, September 1, at Wicksteed Park, Kettering, and proceeds will go to Lakelands Hospice, Corby, Cransley Hospice in Kettering and other good causes supported by the Rotary Club.

Mel Jarvis, publicity officer for the Rotary Club of Corby Phoenix, said: “It’s great fun for competitors and spectators alike.

“The races become more and more heated with the boats being cheered on as the races progress.”

Last year the event raised £17,500 and organisers are hoping to do as well this time.

Teams will compete over a 200-metre course on the lake at Wicksteed Park. Each crew is made up of 10 rowers with a drummer at the back of the boat and a helmsman,.

Companies or organisations interested in taking part in the dragon boat race can contact John Dixon by emailing john@jdtraining.co.uk.
