Gardeners in East Northamptonshire have the chance to sign up to a garden waste service for six months instead of 12, giving them the chance to try out the service without committing for a full year.

The garden waste service is for the collection of green waste such as grass cuttings, hedge trimmings, weeds, dead plants and flowers, prunings and leaves.

Members are provided with a 240-litre wheeled bin which is emptied every fortnight except at Christmas and New Year.

All of the waste collected is recycled locally into compost, reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill.

More than 2,700 residents in East Northamptonshire have already signed up to the garden waste service in 2013, and during September it costs just £25 to sign up to the service until the end of March 2014.

Cllr Steven North, leader of East Northamptonshire Council, said: “The garden waste service is a really handy scheme for gardeners across the district.

“Kerbside collection is convenient and 90 per cent of those who signed up to the service in previous years have renewed their contract for 2013-14, so we know that most users value it highly.”
