New businesses will be given a chance to publicise themselves at a Kettering market with discounted rates on two days in the coming weeks.
As part of the Government-backed Love Your Local Market fortnight, Kettering Council has offered discounted pitches on the flea market to entrepreneurs who are looking to start up a new business on Wednesday, June 27, and Wednesday, July 4.
Stalls will be available to them on both dates for £10, instead of the usual £13.
As part of the initiative, the flea market, which is held on Wednesdays in Meadow Road, will be given a makeover with vibrant branding and new traders pitching up.
Valerie Hitchman, head of community services at the council, said: “This has been a great initiative to get more people trading on markets, and is an excellent way for them to gain first hand experience with minimum costs.
“We have some energetic traders with some wonderful goods up for grabs so get there early”.
The council took over the market’s management when previous operater Hughmark Continental Ltd quit in August.
It has dwindled in recent years, with the number of traders falling.
Cllr Steve Bellamy, portfolio holder for the environment at the council, said: “Love Your Local Market is a great campaign to get us shopping and supporting our local markets.
“We have some great markets across the borough of Kettering which offer something new and it’s important we support the small businesses on the High Street.”
