Shoppers enjoyed some free festive fun at Wellingborough market thanks to the developer behind the town’s Stanton Cross development.

Housebuilder Bovis Homes sponsored the festive activities which included a bouncy disco dome, a cine-bus showing Christmas films and characters from Snow White and Frozen.

Last weekend’s event was aimed at promoting and attracting more shoppers and traders to the market, which some families have traded at for more than 60 years.

May Taylor, five, said: “I loved meeting Father Christmas and Snow White.

“I watched Frozen in the cinema bus and jumped in the bouncy disco dome.”

John Lougher, Bovis Homes group land director responsible for Stanton Cross, said: “Wellingborough market is an important feature of the town centre.

“We are very excited to be able to support it and to have provided Wellingborough shoppers with some free festive activities.

“We are glad the event was such a success.”

The event was run by Wellingborough Council and Wellingborough Norse.

Stanton Cross is a major residential led development set to deliver 3,650 homes, employment areas and shopping facilities on land to the east of Wellingborough train station.

It will be the largest growth the town has seen since the 1960s, including new homes, as well as shops, schools, commercial space, a town park, community centre and doctor’s surgery.

There will also be major improvements to roads and public transport.

Stanton Cross will create about 300 jobs a year over the construction period, as well as more than 7,500 additional permanent jobs once the project is completed.

Numerous stakeholders are involved in Stanton Cross, including Bovis Homes, Wellingborough Council, Network Rail, Northamptonshire Enterprise Partnership, Northamptonshire County Council and East Midlands Trains.
