A Desborough mum raised hundreds of pounds the Bowel and Cancer Research charity by completing the London Marathon after her friend was diagnosed with colon cancer last year.

Gabby Hanson-Assan, 40, raised sponsorship of £300 for the cause which she said is very close to her heart.

Her friend Cynthia Omolulu was diagnosed with colon cancer last year and is currently undergoing treatment.

Mum of three Gabby said: “Cynthia was in my mind and thoughts throughout the whole experience. It was very emotional.”

She crossed the finish line in 3hr 54min, smashing her last marathon time of 4hr 10min achieved last year in Milton Keynes.

Gabby added: “I was pleased and relieved to get to the finish in one piece and felt so strong and proud.”

“I enjoyed every single moment. The crowds and the support were phenomenal.”
