Demolition work has started on a building at the centre of a dispute between residents and a developer.

Suresh Patel hopes to turn the site of a former nurses home in the Hatton Park area of Wellingborough into five detached family homes and has started demolishing the building despite being asked by Wellingborough Council to resubmit his planning application.

Nearby residents believe the plot is too small for five homes and are opposing the plans.

Now Yvonne Pycroft, who lives next to the site, has complained after debris from the demolition works fell into her garden.

She said: “There’s nothing to stop him demolishing the building but we had no communication.

“All the objections to the plans we’ve made have been based on fact, there will be nine windows overlooking my back garden if they go ahead, but Mr Patel has questioned our integrity, which I find incredibly objectionable.”

Mr Patel said: “I have kept residents informed. I had a residents’ meeting on July 31 and about 75 people turned up.

“Of those 85 per cent were in favour of the development.

“It is unusual for developers to keep residents as informed as I have.”
