People from across the county and stars of London 2012 were among those taking part in the 11th Silverstone half marathon yesterday (Sunday, March 3).

Olympic and Paralympic stars David Weir, Richard Whitehead and Scott Overall were among the competitors. It was Weir’s first race since his four-gold performance last summer, and he cruised to victory in the wheelchair race. Another winner was Overall, who took part in the marathon during the Olympics.

Double amputee Whitehead provided one of the best stories during the Paralympics when, unable to compete in his preferred distance of the marathon, he instead stormed to an incredible world record-smashing triumph in the 200m.

Whitehead finished in a time of 90 minutes, saying he was satisfied with his performance as he prepares for the London marathon in April.

Just over 6,100 people finished yesterday’s race, out of 6,224 starters.
