A date has been announced for this year’s Weldonfest music and arts festival.

The seventh festival will take place on Saturday, June 22, at Corby Rugby Club and 5,000 visitors are expected.

Since its launch in 2007, the event has raised more than £75,000 for local and national charities and good causes.

The organisers have invested in professional staging, lighting and music-marquees and this year there will also be a new 15 Minutes of Fame music tent to showcase younger and newer acts.

A spokesman for the organisers said: “Due to the appalling weather leading up to Weldonfest 2012, it was touch and go as to whether the event would actually happen. Thanks to the police and a few others, we were able to re-plan the event in the 36 hours before the start time.

“We’ve taken those lessons on board and although our costs have gone up, we feel confident that we will be able to better cope with those same conditions should they happen again.”

More than 60 mainly local acts will be appearing on a main stage, acoustic, dance and indie, metal and punk music tents.

Weldonfest will also feature out-of-town headliners with The Moderators, El Camino and The Crooked Empire closing each area.

The children’s tent will be larger this year, allowing families and children to create, build, play and have fun in a safe and regulated environment.

Tickets for Weldonfest go on sale from Tuesday, April 2.
