The county council says a missing drainhole cover on the A43 between Kettering and Corby will be replaced as soon as possible, despite intially insisting there was no problem with the road.

Craig Mcgregor got in touch to say that he had an accident on his bicycle about four months ago on the road due to the missing cover.

He said: “I reported this to the Highways Agency and Northamptonshire County Council.

“They said they would look into it but when they got back to me they said they could find no defect on that road.

“I took numerous pictures and sent them to the Highways Agency and the council and up until Monday, August 17, they were still adamant that there was no problem on the road.

“Someone has replaced the missing drain cover with half a drain cover and an upside down traffic cone.

“I have just spoken to the person who is dealing with it and he says five people have been out and couldn’t find any problem, which is a joke as there clearly is.”

A Northamptonshire County Council spokesman said: “We are aware of the incident and have placed a traffic cone over the missing drain cover to alert road users.

“A permanent replacement cover has been ordered and will be fitted as soon as possible.”
