Police have named the young Corby cyclist who died after a collision in Cottingham Road, near the town centre.

The 21-year-old victim has been identified as Gary Kirk, of Woodlands Avenue in the town.

Dozens of floral tributes in memory of Mr Kirk have been left at the railings at the mini-roundabout at the junction of Cottingham Road and Elizabeth Street, the scene of the collision.

A police spokesman said: “The man who died in the fatal road traffic collision on Cottingham Road, with the junction with Elizabeth Street, was Gary Kirk, 21, of Woodlands Avenue, Corby.”

Mr Kirk was riding a light-coloured Koona mountain bike when he was involved in a road accident with a black Vauxhall Astra at the junction at about 9.10pm on Tuesday, July 29.

The police spokesman said: “A 49-year-old man who was driving the Astra was not injured but was left shaken by the accident.”
