A man threatened a cashier with what she believed was a gun in a robbery at a Wellingborough betting shop on Wednesday evening.
The incident happened sometime between 6.30 and 7pm at the Ladbrokes bookmaker in Midland Road.
A female cashier was emptying arcade machines and beginning to cash up when a man walked into the shop and walked directly towards her holding out an orange carrier bag.
He placed the bag over the counter and ordered the woman to put cash into the bag.
In his other had, the man was carrying a black carrier bag which was tightly wrapped around an object which was shaped like a gun.
The cashier handed over money and the man walked off towards the town centre at the top of Midland Road.
The culprit is described as black, about 5ft 5in and of sturdy build.
The offender is described as a black man, 5ft 5ins tall and of sturdy build. He was wearing a grey hoody and black tracksuit bottoms with white trainers, black baseball cap, black scarf and black gloves.
Employees at a nearby independent shop, who asked not to be identified, said they were shocked by the incident, adding: “We’ve never heard of that happen around here before. It’s scary.”
Staff at Ladbrokes declined to comment.
