An elderly couple handed over more than £1,000 to two men purporting to be builders who drove off without carrying out any work.
The incident happened at about 2.30pm in Rannoch Way, Corby, when the two men called at the home of an elderly couple and told them their roof was in need of urgent repair.
The men proceeded to remove cladding from the side of the roof and then told the couple they could fix it for a sum of money, and encouraged them to hand over a thousand pounds as a down payment.
The two men then claimed they were going to get supplies from a builders’ merchant before driving off, but did not return as promised.
The offenders are described as two white men with London accents.
One was aged 40 to 45, about 6ft with a slim build.
The other was aged 30 to 40, about 5ft 6in with a heavy build.
Anyone who knows anything about the incident, or who saw suspicious activity in the area last Thursday afternoon, is asked to call Northamptonshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
