She is also charged with harassing her own son Austen Blaney, 39, from Northampton, over the same period.

Bassouls, of Ardross, Alness, Scotland, was due to appear at Northampton Magistrates’ Court today (Wednesday) charged with two counts of harassment without violence.

But the case was adjourned before she was called into the dock and she will stand trial for three days on August 12 at courts in Northamptonshire.

She was granted unconditional bail and told reporters outside court: “There will be no comment at this stage.”

Ex-England winger Ben, aged 36, did not attend court but may be called to give evidence against his mother-on-law.

Mr Cohen split from his wife Abby, aged 37, last September and left their home he shared with their six-year-old twin daughters Harriette and Isabelle.

Ben met his wife in 1995, at the age of 17, and the couple married in 2003 before having their daughters in 2008.
