Toddler Cerys Edwards is recovering after an eight-hour operation to remove a cancerous tumour from her head.

Her family say the surgery went well.

The three-year-old, who lives in Kettering, was able to see her dad Jamie before the operation after he was given compassionate leave from Wellingborough Prison to be at her bedside.

A statement from the Edwards family said: “The operation went well and 95 per cent of the tumour has been removed. Cerys is in intensive care with her mummy by her side. Further treatment of chemotherapy will be necessary.

“The family would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes and support. We really appreciate it.”

The potentially life-saving operation was carried out at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

Well-wishers have posted messages of support for Cerys on the Evening Telegraph’s website yesterday.

Bridget Dowsett wrote: “God bless you all, thinking of you and your little girl.” Bruno wrote: “Bless her little heart. I wish you all the best.”
