Shoppers are being urged to be cautious after a theft at a Wellingborough supermarket.

A 55-year-old woman was putting a trolley back in the Tesco car park, Whitworth Way, at about 1.30pm on Tuesday, May 28, when a man spoke to her.

She then discovered that four credit/debit cards had been taken from her purse, which was in her car, while she had been talking to him.

The offender is described as a 5ft 9in white man, around 30 years old, who was clean shaven and had an olive complexion. He was wearing a dark beige hat with a floppy brim, a light beige jacket and dark trousers.

Detective Inspector Ali Farr said: “I want to urge shoppers to be careful not to leave their car unlocked, even for a couple of minutes while returning a trolley. I’d also like to encourage people to report any similar suspicious activity to us.”

Witnesses to this incident, or anyone with information, should call Northamptonshire Police on 101 - alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
