A three-year-old who will today undergo brain surgery has been granted her wish to see her father before the operation.

Cerys Edwards, of Kettering, was this morning due to go under the knife to remove a large, cancerous tumour at the back of her head.

Her family had feared that dad Jamie would not be allowed compassionate leave from Wellingborough Prison to be at her bedside but after the Evening Telegraph reported their plight, and after protests in Rothwell and Kettering yesterday, Cerys had a visit from her father.

Mum Adele Edwards, 35, of Sackville Street, spoke to the Evening Telegraph from John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford during yesterday’s visit ahead of the potentially life-saving operation.

She said: “Cerys is in good spirits.

“It’s absolutely amazing and lovely to see – she’s got a big smile back on her face.

“The doctors have gone through everything that could go wrong and it’s heartbreaking to hear, but we have got to be hopeful that everything goes well and there are no problems.”
