Northamptonshire Police are hoping to convince Northampton Borough Council to impose early morning alcohol restrictions at a meeting taking place next week.

The force is presenting evidence to Northampton Borough Council’s Licensing Committee.

Chief Constable Adrian Lee said: “I am very much in support of an Early Morning Alcohol Restriction Order in Northampton and believe that the evidence shows that this should be given full consideration by the committee.

“The levels of crime and anti-social behaviour we experience when policing into the early hours of the morning are just not acceptable.

The meeting is taking place on Tuesday, June 18.

Ch Con Lee added: “We have a strong desire to work with the licensing trade and anticipate that an EMRO can deliver the essential ‘level playing field’ on which businesses can compete and flourish. It is important that consultation takes place and the views of the public, trade or other affected persons either in support of, or against, EMROs are heard.

“The Force hopes to be able to use the EMRO if adopted together with other powers and policing tools to more effectively prevent crime and reduce disorder in our county.

“I am keen for Northampton to continue to build a bright and vibrant culture, however my duty is to keep people safe and I believe that Early Morning Alcohol Restriction Orders, when used in the right places and at the right times, will have a significant benefit to local people.”
