A man was punched and another threatened with a knife by a gang of men in Northamptonshire when they refused to hand over their mobile phones.

Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted robbery which happened at around 10pm on Friday, May 29.

Two men were walking along Booth Lane North in Northampton in the direction of Northampton College, when they were approached by a group of ‘about six men’, a police spokesperson said, who asked if they had a mobile phone.

An offender then punched one of the victims and produced a knife which they showed the other one.

The two men ran away from the group and no property was stolen.

The offenders are described as white and in their late teens. One of them wore a black baseball cap and was carrying a bottle of spirits. Another was about 5ft 9in tall with an average build. He wore a black hooded raincoat.

Witnesses, or anyone who knows anything about this incident, can call Northamptonshire Police on 101.
