Northamptonshire Police has welcomed two new four-legged recruits to its ranks – police dogs Leah and Kanto.
Leah and her handler PC Jenny Donnell passed their licensing this week, following an intensive 13-week training course.
Their success comes shortly after the police’s dog section welcomed PC Steve Thorpe and police dog Kanto into their ranks, following their successful passage through the training programme.
Leah, aged two, and Kanto, aged three, are now on full operational duty – Jenny and Leah in Northampton and Steve and Kanto in the north of the county.
Kanto has already seen action in his first two weeks on his new beat.
On Friday, April 19, he tracked and located a man hiding under a bridge near Billington Street in Northampton.
This enabled officers to arrest the man on suspicion of carrying out a burglary which had taken place earlier.
In another incident on the same night, Kanto tracked a man to a wooded area in Little Billing.
The man was then arrested on suspicion of a burglary in Fisher’s Close.
