Drivers in Northamptonshire are being advised to avoid driving “unless necessary” after the Met Office issued a weather warning of severe rain.
According to the Met Office some areas of the county will miss the downpours but thunderstorms are likely in many places this afternoon and evening.
The weather warning states: “Please be aware of possible disruption to travel and localised flooding as well as frequent lightning.”
Police are advising motorists not to enter standing water when driving but take an alternative route
Slow down, extend braking distance and test brakes as soon as you have driven through surface water.
