A man who ignored a policeman’s signal to stop him driving into an illegal rave in Northamptonshire because he thought he was ‘waving’ at him has been fined £150.
Nathan Hampton appeared at Northampton Magistrates’ Court after he was charged with failing to stop a vehicle when required by a police constable.
The court heard a policeman was standing on duty to the entrance to a field at Walgrave Road, Holcot, on August 2 at about 5am to stop people from entering an illegal rave.
Julie Costello, prosecuting, said the policeman saw a car being driven towards him and raised his hand in front of the vehicle and indicated for it to stop.
However, the vehicle continued past him and the Hampton, who was the driver, was later arrested after he stopped the vehicle further in the field.
Mrs Costello said Hampton told the officer he thought he his hand gesture had been a “friendly wave”.
Hampton, of no fixed abode, who pleaded guilty, was fined £150. He must also pay costs of £85, court costs of £150 and victim surcharge of £20.
