Man hit on head with a hammer in underpass

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted in Corby.

The incident happened on Sunday, August 4, between 8pm and 8.10pm in the underpass that links Dunedin Road with the Danesholme estate.

A 25-year-old man was walking from Dunedin Road into the underpass when he was approached by a man on a black mountain bike.

The man pulled up beside the victim, jumped off his bike and hit the victim on the head several times with a hammer.

The victim managed to run off into the Danesholme estate. The offender is believed to have gone in the opposite direction, into Kingswood estate.

The victim was taken to hospital and required stitches.

The offender is described as white, about 5ft 11ins tall and skinny.

He was wearing a black tracksuit, black balaclava with white trim around the eyes and was riding a plain black mountain bike.
