A 22-year-old man foiled a thief who tried to steal his bag from him on Christmas Eve.

The victim was walking along Polwell Lane, Barton Seagrave, near the A14 bridge, when he was approached by a man on a bicycle who grabbed his bag, pulled it over his head and demanded: “Give me your bag.”

He managed to pull the bag back, the man then grabbed him by his jacket, he pulled free and the man cycled off towards Burton Latimer Industrial Estate.

The incident happened sometime between 7 and 7.30am.

The offender is described as 5ft 8in, medium build, with a local accent and was wearing a dark blue of black fleece and a neck warmer covering the bottom half of his face.

He was also wearing dark coloured trousers with side pockets, black steel capped boots and had a rose gold coloured plain band on his wedding ring finger.

He was riding a dark coloured mountain bike with writing across the A frame and thick off-road tyres.
