A man was attacked and had his wallet and a mobile phone stolen in Regent Square, Northampton, early this morning.

The 30-year-old victim was walking from the petrol station in Grafton Street in the direction of the town centre, just after midnight on Friday, February 20.

When he reached Regent Square he was set upon by a group of men.

One of them, believed to be Eastern European, punched and kicked him to the ground.

During the incident the victim had a bag, a wallet containing cash and a mobile phone stolen.

The Eastern European man was accompanied by a group of black men.

They were all aged 16 to 24 and were dressed in tracksuits and jeans.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have any information regarding it.
