A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire at a home in Irchester which badly damaged a house last night (Wednesday, April 24).

Fire crews from Wellingborough and Rushden were called to the scene in Farndish Road at about 10.50pm and used breathing apparatus and hose reels to battle the blaze, which engulfed three bedrooms.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service said the three bedrooms were severely damaged, while the rest of the home suffered smoke damage.

She added that the fire was believed to have been started deliberately and the cause is currently under investigation.

This morning (Thursday) detectives were at the scene speaking to neighbours.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said there was no-one inside the property when the fire started.

She added: “We have arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of arson.

“He has not yet been interviewed.”
