A man accused of a robbery at a Kettering supermarket while armed with a meat cleaver has appeared in court.

Christopher Gaffney, 38, of Marion Square in Kettering, entered no plea when he appeared at Northampton Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

He is charged with the robbery of £240 from the Co-op in Grange Place, off Stamford Road in Kettering on Sunday (March 30).

Gaffney, who was remanded in custody, will appear at Northampton Crown Court on April 16 for a preliminary hearing.

At the same hearing, Gaffney admitted failing to attend a drug test appointment and was given one day in prison, which he had already served.
