A paedophile who abused two young children more than 30 years ago has been jailed for four years.

Michael Sharman, 73, of Arkwright Road, Irchester, was investigated by Northamptonshire Police after his two victims contacted the force.

Sharman was found guilty of five counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child after a trial earlier this year.

James Thomas, prosecuting, said Sharman’s victims had contacted police in 2013 due to the “memories triggered by the events in the news.”

Judge Lynn Tayton sentenced Sharman at Northampton Crown Court to a total of four years in prison for the offences.

She said he would serve half in prison and then be released and serve the rest on licence.

He will be placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
