Two men who cornered a mobile phone thief have been recognised with a community award.
Darren Greenfield and Kevin Winson gave chase along Market Street after a man snatched the phone from John Newman, the owner of John Newman Hairdressing, in February last year.
Mr Greenfield is a hairdresser at the salon while Mr Winson was halfway through a cut and gave chase with a black cape still around his neck.
They cornered the thief and held him until police arrived to arrest the man.
He was later jailed for 26 weeks, having broken the terms of a previous suspended sentence.
Richard Ley, president of the Rowell and District Association for the Prosecution of Felons, said the group had decided to present the pair with an award for their ‘public-spirited actions’.
The presentation took place at Tresham Hall in Rothwell last Thursday.
Mr Ley said: “It was a pleasure to be able to recognise the actions of Mr Greenfield and Mr Winson in chasing and apprehending the mobile phone thief last year.”
