A 12-year-old girl was approached in Kettering by a car containing three men who offered her a lift.

Police say the girl was walking along London Road at about 3.45pm on Tuesday.

When she was near the junction with Broadway a blue car with a blacked-out rear windscreen pulled up alongside her.

The driver asked her if she wanted any help carrying her bag and then offered her a lift.

She refused and ran home reporting the matter to her parents, who subsequently contacted police.

As well as the man driving the car there were also two other men in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

At no point did any of the men make any move to force the girl into the car.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: “This would appear to be an isolated incident, however officers are reminding people to make sure they remind their children about not engaging with strangers and to make sure they report any incidents of this nature to the police.”

Witnesses, or anyone with information, should phone Northamptonshire Police on 101. Alternatively, phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
