Police officers are appealing for witnesses following a distraction burglary in York Road, Wollaston.
A man claiming to be from the council knocked on a door on Tuesday, June 11, between 1pm and 2.20pm and said he wanted to collect council tax arrears.
The elderly victim then handed over a substantial amount of cash.
The offender is described as a white man of medium build, 30 to 45 years old and about 5ft 9ins tall. He was clean shaven with short scruffy dark brown hair.
Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have noticed anybody acting suspiciously in the area and have advised people not to open to the door to unexpeected callers they don’t know.
