Charity collecting “soldier” arrested

A 52-year-old man dressed in military uniform who was collecting coins for the charity Help for Heroes has been arrested on suspicion of a fraud offence.

The “soldier” was collecting outside the Tesco store on the parade of shops in Butland Road, Corby, on Monday, police said.

It is unknown yet whether the man is a genuine soldier.

He was arrested and taken to Corby police station, where he was granted police bail pending further enquiries.
