Plans have gone in to demolish the pavilion of a cricket club near Kettering and build a new one.

Weekley and Warkton Cricket Club wants to knock down the pavilion at its Church Lane home in Weekley.

The club, which has three teams in Hevey Building Supplies Northamptonshire League, then wants to build a new one in its place.

A planning application reads: “The current pavilion dates back at least 40 years, originally comprising two small changing rooms and a tea room and w/c.

“As the club has grown and league requirements have been introduced, the pavilion has been extended and altered but current facilities are dated and the building has come to the end of its serviceable life.

“Work and discussions over the past few months by club members regarding funding has led to the redesign of the scheme and hence this revised application.

“It is now thought more cost-effective to demolish the existing pavilion and erect a new structure in its place in two phases.”

A decision is expected by September 16 this year.
