A couple who have enjoyed 73 years of wedded bliss received a hamper and a giant Valentine’s Day card after winning a supermarket competition.
Asda in Corby held the competition to find the husband and wife who have been married longest and Bob and Kathleen Mears, of Burns Drive, in the town, won the prize.
Mr Mears, 95, and his wife, who celebrated her 100th birthday on Saturday, were married in Kettering Register Office just after the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939.
He said: “Our secret for a long happy marriage is not to have any secrets from each other.”
The couple have a daughter, also called, Kathleen who lives in Yorkshire.
