A couple have transformed their lounge into a log cabin so they can enjoy their very own Little House on the Prairie - with the help of a top timber firm from North Wales.

Peter Szwajgier and his fiancée, Alicja Druzkowska, from Irthlingborough have clad the inside of their living room to give them a real taste of the wild frontier.

Award-winning Clifford Jones Timber, based in Ruthin, Denbighshire, supplied the rustic raw material to give the lounge in the Allen Road home an authentic make-over.

Now 40-year-old Peter says his most ambitious DIY project to date has transformed the extension from a traditional lounge into a cosy music room with a definite wild frontier look where he and his family can enjoy jam sessions with their family and friends.

Peter, who works as a lorry driver for a firm in Milton Keynes, says creating the log-clad room was originally the idea of 38-year-old Alicja who works as a fitness instructor.

He said: “She always dreamt of building a log cabin on our own plot of land somewhere but it’s not always easy to find the right land and then get permission to build on it.

“We were happy to help out though and we’re delighted that Peter and Alicja are happy with the result.”

“After we took delivery of the logs Alicja and I spent about two weeks working on the transformation of the room, our jobs permitting.

“I cut each log to the right length using a circular saw and then attached them to the walls using metal brackets drilled into the brickwork.

“Luckily, the walls are very solid so it wasn’t a problem.

“We haven’t painted or varnished them and just left them with a natural look.”

The couple have two children, son Dominik, 11, and seven-year-old daughter Oliwia, now host regular musical gatherings for their friends in their new wooden wonderland.

Lesley, who works at Clifford Jones Timber in Ruthin, said: “This was one of the more unusual orders we have received but we are used to supplying a variety of different customers.”

Clifford Jones Timber are the UK’s largest manufacturer of wooden fence posts and process over 100,000 tons of timber from UK forests every year with products that include laminated timber for the building and leisure industries, logs and pellets for biomass heating and even cat litter and horse bedding – they pride themselves on using everything that comes through the gates.
