Scores of county churches joined in with hundreds across the nation in ringing in the official start of the Olympics.

Up to 50 churches in Northamptonshire rung their bells in a countywide chime at 8.12am to herald the start of the highly-anticipated Games.

Our local churches included Corby’s St John The Baptist Church, in the Old Village, with bell ringers chiming for three minutes.

Hundreds of churches took part up and down the country, 12 hours before the Games begin with an opening ceremony in London.
