COUNCILLORS in Wellingborough are divided over whether the local authority should use social media to communicate with residents.
The topic came up at a recent meeting of the council’s resources committee.
Cllr Graham Lawman said they should be using Twitter to report latest council news.
He said the council was one of the only local services which didn’t use social media.
He told fellow committee members: “It’s easy to communicate with several people through social media.”
But Cllr John Bailey said he was very much against it.
He said: “I think we ought to be very careful about getting involved with such things.
“In my experience they are a recipe for slanderous comments and uninformed responses. We are a respectable public body.”
