Council tax set to be frozen in Kettering again

The level of council tax in Kettering is set to be frozen for yet another year.

Council tax has not increased in Kettering since 2011/12 despite financial pressures facing local authorities across the country.

The council’s executive committee met last week to recommend a level of council tax for the year 2017/18.

They recommended no increase in council tax - becoming one of just a handful of councils in the UK to do so.

Council house rent prices were also lowered by one per cent, the equivalent of 81p a week.

East Northants Council’s draft budget assumes there will be no increase in council tax but there is no proposal.

Members will debate and decide the level when they meet at a council meeting on March 1.

Kettering Council will also confirm its level of council tax on the same date.

Northants County Council will set its budget on Thursday. The vast majority of council tax receipts goes to the county authority.
