Council leader wins second term

THE leader of East Northamptonshire Council has been re-elected to serve another term.

Cllr Steven North, leader of the ruling Conservative group and a member for Rushden Sartoris ward, was re-elected as leader at the annual meeting on Wednesday. Cllr Glenn Harwood, who represents Higham Ferrers Lancaster ward, was voted in as deputy leader.

Cllr North said: “I can assure local people, councillors and council staff that we’re looking to the future with optimism and energy as well as a pragmatic sense of realism and honesty about the task ahead, particularly given the financial pressures that exist in local government and the wider public sector.

“The council will continue to provide leadership in many key areas including a commitment to regeneration and economic development to ensure continued prosperity for the district. I will lead on this work as a member of a team and everyone has a contribution to make – members of all parties, officers and the council’s workforce.”
