Architects who designed The Cube in Corby have written to the borough council advising it not to foot the bill to repair its leaking roof.
Hawkins Brown wihas written to the chief executive Norman Stronach after councillors agreed a further £600,000 to carry out repairs.
The letter states “the cost of roof repairs should not be borne by the council”.
It goes on: “The council should still be holding a bond that would be the logical source for funding the repair of the defective works if the contractor refuses to comply with the proper instructions of the contract administrator and correct defective workmanship.”
The council is holding talks with the architects and builders Galliford Try to determine who is responsible for paying for the repair work.
Council chief executive Mr Stronach said: “We received a letter from Hawkins Brown last week and acknowledged the advice given, which will be considered carefully.
“The council is taking its own professional legal advice and is exploring all avenues in regards to reclaiming costs on the Corby Cube.”
