A Corby school which was placed in special measures last November has been praised for making outstanding improvements.
Ofsted inspectors recently visited The Kingswood School in Gainsborough Road, which will become an academy in September, with sponsorship from the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust.
The inspectors’ report said: “The headteacher has shown outstanding skill in rapidly identifying where improvements are needed in the school and driving forward apace, changing many aspects of the school in a short time.”
Inspectors said that Scott Hudson, the school’s headteacher, has been supported to a very high standard by his leadership team and that the improvements were the result of the collective efforts of all staff who have shown fortitude in taking on new ways of working.
When the school was place in special measures, Ofsted inspectors said improvements were needed in the quality of teaching and achievements raised in English and maths.
They highlighted the need to improve attendance rates and to reduce the number of exclusions.
Following the latest inspection, they said all the improvements made were based on the school’s self-evaluation which was described as “impressively accurate”.
The report said: “All aspects of the school’s work are scrupulously analysed and developed to increasingly meet the needs of students. The systems which have been developed for collating and analysing data are exemplary.”
Inspectors said teaching has improved significantly and they also acknowledged the excellent behaviour of the students which was graded as outstanding.
The report added: “In lessons and around the school, students are courteous and polite.”
Mr Hudson said: “We are delighted with the report which recognises the significant improvements that have been made during the year which are a testament to the hard work and commitment of all those associated with the school - staff, students, parents and governors.
“This is an extremely exciting time to be part of Kingswood and we will now build from here as we continue our drive to provide the highest quality of education for our students and be recognised for the excellent standards of our work in both the local and wider area.”
When the school becomes an academy it will benefit from a range of services provided by the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust, including educational support, finance, human resources, ICT, catering, health and safety, data, communications and marketing.
