Corby man Neil McCulloch impressed judges in the Midlands heat of Sandwich Designer of the Year 2014 competition and has won a place in the finals.

He was picked to be one of seven contestants who, after lifting the humble sandwich to new heights, will go forward to the event on May 15 at the Lancaster Hotel, London.

Neil, who works for the 2 Sisters Food Group, Corby, was a joint winner the English Provinder red pepper and chilli chutney category, with Richard Salt, of Adelie Foods Milton Keynes.

Neil made a red Pepper and chilli chutney and smoked salmon panini and a butterbean, sour cream and chargrilled tomato flat bread.

The judges couldn’t decide whether this or Richard’s Korean barbecue pork and kimchee hirata bun with pickled vegetables, red pepper and chilli chutney, was the best so declared them joint winners and both will go through to the final.
