A keen runner from Corby is celebrating her 30th birthday by running 30k on a treadmill for charity.

Marie Scott has been running since she was eight, but gave up for various reasons three years ago. She got the running bug again in December and started using the treadmill at Den’s Gym in Cannock Road. As she neared her 30th birthday she decided to celebrate by running 30k at the gym to raise funds for Lakelands Hospice.

Marie said: “It’s a bit of a weird way to celebrate your birthday but I like to help local charities and I know Lakelands rely on funding to keep going.

“Everyone at the gym has been really supportive as has my work, Bibby Distribution, and they have offered to match any sponsorship money I raise.”

Marie has put sponsorship forms at the gym and at Ya Hao Chinese restaurant in Rockingham Road, where she works two nights a week.

She is doing her run on October 27 and hopes to complete the distance in two-and-a-half hours.
